In order to ensure that a larger number of enthusiasts could take part in the exhilarating sport, which sees participants jump out of an aircraft at nearly 4,000 metres over the Palm Jumeirah, Skydive Dubai has built a much larger runway stretching right out into the sea.
From its humble beginnings as a sand runway, a tent and a few portable cabins, the take-off and landing platform is now 770 metres long stretching 550 metres out into the Arabian Gulf making it the longest of its kind in the Middle East.
After completing tests with alternative products, 26,000 sq. metres of Flowcrete’s crack bridging traffic deck coating system, Deckshield ID was chosen to cover the entire runway before being finished with Deckshield UV Topcoat in order to ensure the material would not discolour as a result of exposure to UV radiation from sunlight.
Flowcrete’s time-proven Deckshield system was selected by the client owing to a wealth of other successful projects using the coating material in the region alongside the system’s UV and abrasion resistance properties.
The time-critical installation was unveiled at Dubai’s annual International Parachute Championship 2012 to much acclaim.
